Location for a Thriller.

I decided to take this photograph of an underground parking lot at night as it fits stereotypically with a thriller setting. Thrillers tend to be based in public but secluded places and a parking lot is a perfect example. There are many shadows and places to hide in this location which creates mystery and suspense.

Brainstorm.

This is just a random brainstorm i decided to do with the help of my dad. I made him sit down and watch the first 15 minutes of Insomnia and then asked him what he expected from the rest of the movie. I did this exercise just to see how someone who is not learning and focusing on thriller films would predict a thrillers plot line.

Bourne Identity:

We meet Bourne (Matt Damon) in the middle of the Mediterranean sea suffering from amnesia.

With no idea who he is or how he ended up there. The audience is filled with suspense on who this man really is. Bourne is fluent in many languages and has many unusual skills. He soon finds a clip implanted in his skin with the number of a safety deposit box programmed on it. After docking he sets of in search of the box and what it holds inside. Our mystery begins and the audience now has to watch the small details that unfold in our confusing plot line.

We are soon inside CIA headquarters and discover that they are watching our mysterious main character too, demonstrating to the audience that Bourne is a highly suspicious character and were left thinking who or what he could possibly be that spikes the CIA’s interest so much. Back in Europe Bourne manages to find the deposit box and finds an assortment of mysterious items inside including many fake ID’s and money in all currencies.

After being pursued by police Bourne once again demonstrates that he is resourceful and intelligence when he takes on a large group and escapes without harm. An intelligent main character is vital in a thriller as the audience is always left guessing about what they’re going to do next.

 Bourne soon meets a Marie Kreutz (Franka Potente) and bribes her with money to drive him to Paris so he can check out an apartment that he hopes holds answers. Bourne is soon faced with an assassin sent by the CIA and fights him using resources around him such as pens and books, were-as the assassin favours guns and knives. Bourne wins and the assassin jumps out of the apartment window in a bloody mess. He and Maria soon run and Bourne finds himself comforting her as she is unable to understand what is going on. He soons finds himself attached to Marie and protects her from attacks. After getting a hotel room for the night and convinces her to cut and dye her hair to disguise herself from the CIA. He then becomes romantical involved with Marie. Bourne sets up many mission in order to understand more about who he is and why he's wanted dead. Bourne finally is able to contact the CIA (who have been looking for him through-out) and arrange a meeting. This is a distraction and Bourne soon sneaks into a base of the CIA and learns the truth. He is an highly trained assassin for the CIA and one of their deadliest weapons. He flees the scene shocked and disgusted by this revelation.Bourne Identity is only the beginning and in the sequels we learn more of Jason Bourne’s identity and secrets. Bourne Identity is a perfect thriller. Being an assassin the deaths aren’t bloody like a horror, but clever and calculated. With Bourne not understanding who he is, mystery and tension build as the audience follows Bourne as he discovers himself and we discover him too. Over-all I give this film a 7.5/10.

By putting these credits into a timeline we learnt that its a legal requirement for some of the cast and crew to be named before the film. We also learnt that the credits are usually shown in order of importance, for example Sigourney Weaver has her name even before the actual title of the film indicating she is seen as a very important person in this film. We also learnt a general order that most tile sequences are put in. For example the production company always comes first to stop copyright and to brand their films as theirs.

Art of the title: 9 frame analysis.

At the beginning of the opening credits there are many images of animals being scanned like this snake. This is important as it hints at the idea of a baby sonogram. Also the snake relates to the appearance of the baby later in the film and scaly texture of the women's womb.

 This image shows the colour scheme which is apparent throughout the title sequence. It is a dark and slimy texture which could relate to the genre of the film also being dark. It also introduces one of the main character's as her name is written on what appears to be an organ which could hint to what the film is based on.

 Like the previous picture the colour scheme in this image demonstrates the dark themes of the film. The name is written what appears to be in veins presenting the hint that the credits were designed to look like the inside of a human body (aka womb).

The font in this image illustrates that it was possibly set in a hospital. This is because the font used is block letters and standard rather than bold which is usually used in doctors notes. This also shows a contribute to the making of the film.

 This presents the name of the director of the film which could be a huge hint to the audience if you knew any of his previous work. Its once again written in a doctor script and the background is some sort of fluid once again linking to the idea of a human body.

This strange image of a bump could lead to the audience questioning what the film is more based on. It again uses the dark and pale green colouring which gives you the sense that the film is quick sickening. The image looks like it is in some kind of fluid which also highlights it being linked to a woman's womb.

 This image shows an actors name written in some sort of scales or growth. This hints that the film is going to focus on some sort of illness and the audience wonders what could be wrong with this woman. The colour green is used again creating a dark theme.

This image introduces the people who work with special effects, this gives the audience an insight as to what the film will include. It's written in the doctors script to make it the same theme throughout the opening sequence.

In this final shot the films title is introduced in the same way the actors and actresses names were. The word has been created to look like veins or some sort of growth in liquid. The colour scheme is consistent and this final shot introduces the film thats about to appear.
