THE SIXTH SENSE:

Dr Malcolm Crowe is a child psychologists and is facing troubles in his marriage. One night the couple are faced with one of Crowe’s old patients, Vincent Gray, threatening, the couple with a gun. As a child Vincent claimed to “see things” and was diagnosed with having hallucinations. Gray is furious that Crowe didn’t help him as a child and shots him in the in stomach before killing himself. We are left with the enigma codes such as if Gray really did see things and if Crowe will survive the injury and if he had any part of the boys psychological disturbance.
Seasons past and Crowe recovers and begins to work with a young boy called Cole Sear who claims to see the same things Gray did. Intrigued Crowe seeks to help the young boy and figure out the mystery behind Gray’s actions. Cole Sear can see and communicate with ghosts and they randomly appear around him. This creates suspense as we are now able to see the ghosts Cole can see. They appear randomly seeking Coles help or just enjoy torturing the boy. Such as a little boy with a shotgun wound in the back of his head looking for his dads gun or a unidentified man in a locked cardboard screaming to be released because his innocent and will hurt Cole if he doesn’t.
Crowe is shocked that Gray was telling the truth all those years ago and makes it his mission to help Cole manage his gift and help people with it. He suggests communicating with the ghosts and fulfilling their last requests. Cole is unsure and scared but finally decides that helping wont be so bad if they disappear after. Cole meets Kyra, a young girl who had a untreatable illness and died recently. Crowe and Cole go to her memorial service where Kyra hands them a tape. On the tape is Kyra stepmother putting cleaning fluid in her food when she was ill. The stepmother now appears to be doing the same to Kyra little sister.
Crowe and his wife continue to fight but now just completely ignore each other, acting like they don’t exist. This creates mystery as the relationship between the two is definitely strange and the audience is left confused by their lack of communication.
Crowe continues to work with Cole and convinces him to tell his mother. Cole attempts to tell her but she automatically dismisses it. Cole then mentions his dead grandmother, her mother and repeats information only she and his mum would know. She soon believe him and vowes to help him and keep him safe.
Crowe feeling some sort of justice leaves Cole more settled with his gift and is being comfortable with the ghosts. Crowe returns home and sees his wife asleep on the coach with the couple wedding video playing. In her sleep she drops a ring which Crowe realises is his own. Confused Crowe wonders why he isn’t and hasn’t been wearing it. Crowe then realises that he has been a ghost since Gray shot him months ago and was drawn to Cole as he had a last wish himself. To understand Grays situation and make a mends for failing with him.
For mystery and suspense this film is definitely in the 8 and 9’s. The ghosts add an element of suspense and surprise while Crowes situation creates mystery. There were hints of Crowes death through-out the film and the audience were left to use their “sixth sense” and figure this out. Over-all a classic thriller film.
